Curtis Memorial Gardens is a small private cemetery belonging to the family of Charles Curtis, Vice-President of the U.S.A. from 1929-1933 with Herbert Hoover as President.NAME BORN DIED
Although Charles Curtis is buried in the Topeka Cemetery, Section 80, his father Orren, paternal grandparents, William and Permelia Curtis and other family members are buried in this family burial plot.
It is located in Topeka, Kansas in the section North of the river (North Topeka) and west of Topeka Boulevard, once known as the Shorey district. On the West side of Topeka Boulevard, find the street Paramore (runs East & West), turn West, travel one block to Harrison, turn North. The street will dead-end, but with an entrance to the Curtis Memorial Gardens. A brick and concrete entry holds a sign reading: CURTIS MEMORIAL GARDENS, (this was removed by Topeka Parks).
There has been some interest in making an attempt to preserve the area as a historical site because of the relation-ship to the only former Vice-President to have come from Kansas.
The gardens has been the victim of multiple vandalism's and destruction of tombstones.
